At work, staff who stomp on their colleagues do not last long in the same office. Kindness makes our world a better place – this sounds clichéd however, the reality is kindness builds trust that develops into meaningful relationships online or in person. I thanked him for the list I requested and said, “You deserve a gold medal for working on a Sunday evening?” He wrote back explaining that he would have meetings all day on Monday and didn’t want me to be inconvenienced for not having it.Īnother kind and considerate public servant! Has work ethic, mentality, or behaviour been impacted by the COVID pandemic or teleworking? I hope this doesn’t jeopardise their personal relationships.Īre these two public servants exceptions to the rule? How many kind and hardworking people stay under the radar every day? I believe such dedication and kindness at work should be recognised. Two weeks later, I received an email from an EU public servant at 9:08 PM on a Sunday. Was he only doing his job, or he is a naturally kind and helpful person? His kindness was evident in our email exchanges afterwards. We have been receiving many enquiries due to our move to online application and sometimes there’s a bug in the system, so I have to work longer”. He answered, “Thank you for your kind words. Hence, I thanked the male sender and added, “I hope you’ll receive a trophy for working very late”. At first, I thought it was a scam or something, but it was the help I needed. I was surprised to receive a response at 11 in the evening, just when I was about to switch off my phone. It’s a great example of something good and peaceful borne out of an era of bloodshed and war when it was invented.Last month, I requested information from the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (known here as CEDIES). Yes people nowadays don’t carry swords but the inner peace you receive from studying the art is worth every second of your time. My Conclusions: If I was going to recommend one martial art to learn, it would be Iaido. This will rub-off on you if you practice the art long enough. Iaido teaches you that you must be empty of all presumptions and random thoughts in order to have a clean, lightning-fast draw.

– Relaxation-In order to draw well and to execute the other moves in Iaido forms, you have to have a clear and relaxed mind. It is a joy to practice Iaido as opposed to forms from other martial arts. – Beauty in Simplicity-The forms are beautiful because they are so simple, powerful, and precise.

Search the web for some videos and you’ll see what I mean. In order to survive an ambush, you simply have to do what you have to do and that’s what Iaido is. – Simplicity in Movement and Purpose-There are no fancy techniques in Iaido. It is one of the martial arts that I always go back to and practice whenever I have the opportunity (and a sword.) It is better to experience the art for yourself. While Iaido as an art is much, much deeper than this, I will not write about it here as that will take too many pages and I might bore you. You strike while unsheathing, and you finish your assailant with your next blow. In addition to the usual Aikido lesson, he would take about twenty minutes to teach us about Iaido and Jo-Jutsu (short staff.) The beauty of Iaido as a martial art lies in its simplicity and its focused approach to self-defense. I studied Iaido as a supplementary art to Aikido (the 2nd time around,) with Sensei Bong Achas. The more you practice Iaido, the more you will understand the meaning behind its techniques. It is a beautiful art that reminds me of Japanese gardens. Each technique begins with an unsheathing attack (or attacks in the case of forms against multiple attackers) or block, a killing blow, blood removal (from the blade,) and re-sheathing. It differs from Kendo and Kenjutsu because all techniques start with the katana still in its sheath. It was developed to counter sudden sword rushes and ambushes from single or multiple attackers.
